I just remember a studies female comrade commentary with regard to a publication that we were doing at the University Faculty about the demands to the young people. The youth were placed, as we say, between the sword and the wall, among the right and the wrong, because it is being used to judge them in such a way during a long time ago.

Recently I read an e-mail that reminded me my colleague's opinions. They were four sentences about the youth's value and they seemed to me contemporaries, however, they were from Socrates’ epoch or more near to us. Then, they were rejected because they loved luxury pleasure and disrespected parents, ancient people and authorities. «Young people are hooligans and lazies. They will never be as they were the time before.»

It seems to be that the concern about the less age ones´ behaviour and manners is one of the humanity's elder conflicts. Irreverents, dissidents and radicals, they have been and they will be, whenever they were compared with previous generations.

Perhaps the Uruguayan poet’s, Mario Benedetti, verses are of the most recurrent when we try to define what belongs to the youth beyond the amusement and the leisure.

being young not hurrying and with memory/
being placed in a history that is their own/

…inventing peace/
…understanding each other with Nature/
…spreading hands for help/
to open doors…»

But it’s also missing for them to decide how do they want to live that life period, what to do and what to leave outstanding, which truths to get as doubts, which roots to remove or to uproot and which ones to seed and to make flourish.

Now that a new course begins arrives another opportunity for the students, and specially for the university students, who from turning up and down all these matters, its projects and dreams, they will be able to free themselves out not only for searching knowledge, but the usefulness that means not to stay wandering, as we say, with their arms crossed.

FEU welcomes its members with the invitation to evaluate what has happened since the VII Congress up to nowadays. Two years have lapsed and it is worth to return over agreements and projections in order to measure how much has the organisation and its people grown. But only this is not enough, because so much energy youth can not be confined to a simple meeting, to a bill adjustment, or to criticize the others, and then, later to ignore them.

So, don't leave anything in the inkwell. Don’t stop yourselves looking to the past time, look inside of yourselves, inside of each one, think about what do you want to do for your own, to appropriate yourselves and to enjoy your space and your time. The most important thing is not being agree with everybody. Start being conquered among yourselves, inside a classroom. That will give you forces to get height.
