The creed

Changes happen so quickly that we do not have time to react the way we would like to in such situations. Then, one looks at the past and thinks about the way one would have reacted if time went back. But a new change surprises us.

Despite everything that changes, even ourselves, any personal or social transformation brings about instability and distrust, and at the same time, expectation and illusion. In any case, we offer some resistance, although the change is good. Is it that we, the human beings, are antiquated by nature?

January is the date for beginnings, foundations, a date that invites us to review past matters and to redefine matters in which we have to focus on in the new epoch.

This month is also a synonym of radical change to Cubans. Our lives are linked to that shock that shook the foundations of the capitalist society to start, from them on, an essentially popular and human social project.

That turn to the left put us in the center of an adventure that is still incomplete. Cubans of the Island have become heroes of continuity, resistance and legend.

In my point of view, that is why it is so difficult to think about 2008 from my individuality.   I rather prefer that we dream together about what we wish to push with all hands, all of them. The economic prosperity of my pocket won’t be enough if the country does not make progress in economy. I won’t fell comfortable in the streets if we do not see each other as brothers and sisters; if we do not serve each other with pleasure, if we do not respect other’s opinions, it we do not learn from experiences and collective knowledge.

In this global village, Cubans have always been distinguished by their deep attachment to solidarity, to the ones they love and by their justness; by the power of our ideas and the passion with which we defend them. That cannot change with the passing of time and the existence of other Cubans walking this land.

We are the characters of this our history, rich and contradictory, fertile and promising. Yet many changes will came to propel our chimeras, the personal and the collective ones. The best thing we can do is to rely on each other, that unity continues to be the sense of our triumph card.
